On Wednesday November 7 former Detroit Tigers slugger Delmon Young pleaded guilty to harassing a group of Jewish tourists. Last spring while standing outside a New York City Hotel Delmon was apparently shouting anti-Semetic slurs and tackling a man. He was ordered to complete 10 days of community service and enroll in a program at the Museum of Tolerance.
While he was standing outside the Hilton Delmon was accused of shouting anti-Jewish comments at a group of Jewish tourists and he even tackled one. He apologized to his team members and was suspended without pay for 7 days. In the program he has to participate in interactive workshops, videos and guided discussions and special instruction from the museum educators to discuss issues of prejudice, tolerance and diversity.
When he completes his program he will be able to plea guilty for a lesser charge. Detroit is prepared to remove him from the team.
